Introduction to Hopeful Future Me

Hi Everyone! My name is Shristi Singh and my major is Management Information Systems. I am a junior and hoping to graduate Fall 2016. I am extremely excited and nervous about the life after graduation. I love to dance, sing (even though I am pretty bad!) and laugh a lot. I hope to be a successful IT professional in future and just make my mom and dad proud.

The best thing about my major is that I get to learn a lot about technology and innovation. In a world where technology is growing rapidly, it is very important to stay updated. The things we can do with the help of technology fascinates me and learning how everything works is something I love to do.  I plan to work for a consulting company first to improve my communication skills and share my knowledge about technology and everything I have learned. I like to help people and just have conversations so I think consulting would be a good way to get a head start on my career.

I went to New Orleans over the winter break. I went there with some of my friends for New Year and it was amazing. I have always been interested in horror movies and going to America’s most haunted city and listening to real haunted stories was exciting for me.

New Orleans, Louisiana

I have a dog named Snowee back home. She is one of the best things that has happened to our family. She is a little bundle of joy who is extremely loved and cared about in our family. She used to be my cuddle buddy and my fluffy pillow back home. I love her! She gave birth to a little baby Snowee over the break giving us another reason to smile. This is one of the best things that had happened over the break. Unfortunately, I was not able to be there to physically see this miracle happening but the pictures does the job.

  1. You know I totally agree with you about the future of technology and innovation, Shristi! I actually worked for OU IT for a while before I started teaching these online courses, and it helped me so much. Before that, I was a regular professor, and I honestly did not have a clue what it is like to run an IT program at a university. I learned so much from that time working for IT that I use on my job now every single day. And that picture of big Snowee and little Snowee is so cute! I bet you could turn that into an inspirational meme that would make everybody smile. Will you get to go home for Spring Break? I know that little Snowee is going to get big very quickly. How great that you have such a sweet picture of the tiny puppy with mama dog like that. Thank you so much for sharing: it makes me feel good just to look at that picture! My husband and I have two cats but no dogs... and there is nothing in the world like puppy energy. It's the best! Of course, all the animals are fun like in the YouTube video you shared. I wonder if animals would enjoy watching "human videos" the same way ha ha.

Oh, I just noticed: don't forget to add Introduction as another label for your blog post, and that way people will find it listed in your labels in the sidebar!

  2. HI Shristi, someone in your blog group this week contacted me to let me know they could not find your Introduction. It's really important for you to label it as Introduction so it shows up in your sidebar; otherwise, you will not get any comments here! Thanks!

  3. First off, congratulations on your upcoming graduation. I will also graduate this fall, and I am incredibly excited about it. I admire your choice of major very much because I agree that technology is rapidly innovating and it is the foundation of everything now and in the future. I took an introductory MIS and I quickly found out that I didn't have the right personality for the profession, so props to you for pursuing your passion.

  4. Hi Shristi!

Congrats on your future graduation! I graduate in May so I know how exciting it is. :) I am sure you will do an excellent job in IT. The job demand is constantly growing. My boyfriend is in the same field and he loves it.

No joke, I watched that youtube video about 5 times. I am such a sucker for any cute animal. You dog and her baby are absolutely precious. If I could, I am sure I would adopt every animal ever. Unfortunately, I live on a college budget so that isn't really possible.

It was nice to meet you! I hope you post updates about your dogs! I look forward to learning more about you this semester.

  5. Hi Shristi! It is nice to meet you. You have picked a great major, one that I could never do. I had a roommate that was MIS and I think it is so cool the things you guys learn to do with computers. I too am really nervous about graduating, but I am sure you will be great at what you do and make your parents proud!

  6. Shristi, I love the background on your blog, and what a cute and creative introduction title – “Hopeful Future Me.” Looks like you’ve gotten quite an impressive start to all of our assignments for this course! I really enjoyed my Management Information Systems class and even thought about changing my major to this but ultimately decided to stick with Accounting. Currently, I am in an Accounting Information Systems course.

  7. Thank you for sharing a little info about yourself, Shristi. I was not aware that New Orleans is America's most haunted city. I wonder why this is the case? I am a little jealous of your major. If I could start over, I would have either done MIS or computer science. I am curious about what job you will get when you graduate. I have a friend who graduates with MIS this semester and he already got hired to a tech company. I bet you will find a job just as easily as he did and I am sure that this will make your parents quite happy.

  9. Shrisit, I think you made an excellent choice with your major. It won't take you long to find a job. Have you thought about pursuing an internship this summer?
That is a great picture. New Orlean's has come a long way since Hurricane Katrina. Did you eat any good food while you were there? I didn't know it was America's most haunted city. There is a lot of great history there. Thanks for sharing, you are off to a great start!

  10. Hi Shristi,

How cool that you went to New Orleans! I've heard so many people talk about their awesome trips there - the festivals, the food, the music, the history - that despite the heat and humidity of Louisiana I'd really like to go.

Congrats on graduating a semester early! Being able to articulate what you want to do and why you like your field, I'm sure you'll have a successful career next.

  11. Hi Shristi,

Your major and future career sound so cool! You're right, technology is always changing it, and so being in a tech career sounds so exciting!

Your dog Snowee is ADORABLE! What kind of dog is she?

Also, I have been to New Orleans and that is one of the coolest cities! I stayed in a bed and breakfast in the French Quarter and it was such an amazing experience. The food was yummy, and I went on a lot of crazy tours, including a ghost tour! (I also enjoy horror movies!)

  12. Hey Shristi,

It is so great to meet you! I think that the IT world has endless possibilities and is something I want to get more technical with at some point in my life. I too am graduating in May, congratulations! That's awesome you got to go to New Orleans. I love the history and culture that goes along with that place, it is one of my favorite cities in the United States. Best of luck with this last semester! I look forward to reading your work.

  13. Shristi, I enjoyed learning a little about you and I think it is cool that your major is MIS. There is a lot of need for that right now and I bet you will have no trouble finding a position in any company. I also like your dog Snowee. She looks so fluffy and fuzzy and reminds me of my dog Koala. Thanks for posting and I look forward to reading some of your stories.

  14. Hi Shristi! That is exciting that you are about to graduate! You will do fantastic with consulting or whatever you decide to do! I think it is super cool you went to New Orleans for New Years. I have been there but not during New Years, so I am sure it was just so much fun! I love my doggies, so I can definitely relate to your love for your precious little balls of fur! It was nice to meet you!

  15. Hello again Shristi! You own some really beautiful dogs and I’m saddened you weren’t able to witness the birth of a new puppy. I bet you can’t wait to get back home and cuddle with both your babies. I’m also in love with ghost stories and shows. I took paranormal investigations a few semesters back and learned some really amazing science-related information about ghost hunting. Speaking of ghost hunting, I’m a long-time fan of Ghost Hunters and watch it religiously every year since it came out! If you haven’t seen it, watch it! Recently, my sister and I have plans to go on the ghost road trip in Oklahoma for Spring Break (It’s a few hours trip through Oklahoma at some of the most haunted locations) and next week we are going to go on the ghost tour in Norman! I’m super excited, maybe I’ll see you there!

  16. Shristi, it is so nice to meet you! Congrats on being able to graduate next semester. I am very jealous! You have a very interesting major that I actually considered when I was choosing my degree. I wish you the best of luck after you graduate! Also, your dogs look awesome. I am a huge dog person and cannot wait to get my own. Anyways, it was nice to meet you!

  17. Hey Shristi, it's pretty cool that you're interested in consulting work. I think it'd be a pretty awesome experience, getting to travel everywhere and meets lots of people. I actually got to go to New Orleans for a robot competition last spring. It's a pretty cool place, huh? I can definitely understand where the name Bourbon St. comes from now. Did you know that they have to literally hose down the roads after big events? Crazy.

  18. Shristi, That is so impressive that you are an MIS major. I have taken a few MIS classes and they were very tough! It is true that it is a very good field to major in with the rapidly growing tech world. I love that picture you took in New Orleans! I love the food there, did you? Nice to “meet” you!

  19. HI Shristi,

You are the first Management information systems major I have met! I have to say I share the same feeling of nervousness about what I am going to do after graduation. It is nice to see that you have your parent’s thoughts in mind during your process of education. I love your dogs! They are very cute! I hope to continue and read more about your stories.
