Week 9 Growth mindset: Appreciation
I am very fascinate the growth mindset concept. The more I dig in the more interesting it gets. I have truly started to believe that our abilities can be better with hard work and dedication. Intelligence and knowledge can be grown by dedication. Students should focus on improvements instead of worrying about how smart they are. I have personally been working a lot on this. I used to think that grades matter the most and strive to get good grades and in that process I would forget to appreciate how much and recognize what all I am learning. I focus more on what I have been learning in different classes and stop getting disappointed if I get a little bad grade. The things we can learn and the ways we can grow is incredible.

Week 6 Growth Mindset: Dealing with anxiety
Talking more about growth mindset for this week, I would
like to share something I have been working on. I struggle with anxiety most of
my days. Specially being a college student has put more pressure and sometimes
it gets too overwhelming. It is hard for me to stay calm in an environment
where there is always something going on. I get anxious when I am around too
many people like in class, while working in computer labs or even when I am in
a movie hall. It feels like I am being trapped and desperate to get out. Now
being a college student, going to classes and working with people is something
I have to do. I have slowly accepted this fact and my anxiety is getting
better. I have realized the fact that ‘it is all in our head’. We need to keep
control of our mind and not overthink the situation. It is in your hands to
take control of situations and your mind and do what is best for you.

Week 4 Growth Mindset: Facing the challenge
For this week’s growth mindset post, I would like to talk
about a particular experience. When I was took Business Finance last semester,
I encountered situations when I doubted myself. I thought it was one of the
hardest classes I have ever taken mostly because professor was hard to keep up
with. I would constantly get disappointing grades on the exams and I finally
gave up. I had never made a grade less than a B but in this particular class I
would be happy with a C as I stopped
trying. That was a very disappointing short phrase. I slowly realized that
can’t be right and decided to try a little harder. I stopped being hard o myself and ended up
with a B by the end of the semester because I decided to face the challenge.

Week 3 Growth mindset: Coming out of my comfort zone
As I keep trying to learn more about growth mindset, I have
realized that that I have bit of both mixed and growth mindset. There have been
times when I have tried to avoid failure and challenges. When I was a freshman,
trying to adopt to a new environment was a priority. I was very shy and an
introvert. I used to hate talking in front of class or ask questions to my
professor even though I needed help. Giving presentations was a nightmare. I
then learned that it is a part of not only student life but also going to be a
part of my professional life. I slowly
learned to get out of my comfort zone and I am a lot of comfortable than I was
before. I always used to find an excuse to get out of situations like this
where I had to present or talk in front of class. I have to say my public speaking class helped
me a lot during this learning process.

Growth Mindset: Learning about Growth Mindset
I was never familiar with Carol Dwek TED talks. After going over the videos I think I agree
with her on everything she says about growth mindset. I have always been an
average student since childhood and I think I can relate to both growth mindset
and fixed mindset. When I was in high school I would not have to try too hard
to make an A. I would end up with at least a B and I would not care that much. Whereas,
after joining college I have been facing a lot of challenges throughout. During
my freshmen year, I was not putting too much effort and still making A’s and B’s
and I was fine with that. However, last semester I struggled because I was
taking all my major MIS classes. I almost got my first ever C. I have never
made a C in my life and I guess that’s when it struck me. I started making
effort to do better and not let it bring me down. I actually tried to understand
the material and learn more than just giving up or ignoring the challenge. I
guess that was my year of bringing growth mindset into practice without even
knowing.
I think Carol is right when she talks about making things a
little harder and making things easy will prevent students from learning as
much as they could. I love challenges now and like to learn more from the
classes I am taking and take full advantage of this opportunity to learn more
and just grow. I am excited to learn more about the growth mindset. I
personally think that setting up goals and knowing what you want is really important
to move forward in life.
